For one weekend this September, visitors can step beyond the finished artwork and into the places where it is actually created as 57 juried artists open 23 working studios for the 2026 Gig Harbor Open Studio Tour. Held September 18-20 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily, the free, self-guided tour stretches through Gig Harbor, Fox Island, the Key Peninsula, Olalla and Port Orchard. Visitors choose their own route and pace, traveling from studio to studio to meet artists, see demonstrations, learn about creative processes and purchase original artwork directly from its makers.
The range of work is extensive. This year's juried artists work in painting, drawing, children's book illustration, ceramics, glass, sculpture, jewelry, photography, fiber, woodworking, printmaking and mixed media, along with specialized disciplines ranging from woodfired stoneware and lampworked glass to copper enameling, cyanotype, paper cutting and wood turning.
But the experience is about more than seeing finished art. Unlike a gallery or traditional art fair, the Open Studio Tour brings visitors directly into the spaces where artists think, experiment and make. A finished ceramic vessel can be seen alongside the kiln that fired it. A painting can be viewed in the room where it took shape. Tools, materials, sketches and works in progress become part of the experience.
That direct connection between artist and visitor has been at the heart of the Gig Harbor Open Studio Tour since its founding in 1993. Whether visitors are serious collectors, searching for something original for their home, looking for a memorable gift, curious about how art is made, or simply planning an autumn weekend exploring the greater Gig Harbor area, the tour offers an opportunity to experience the region's creative community from the inside.
